AURORA & THE TWO STARS

Rem; The Black Star, was the Guardian of the night sky. Each evening he would walk the earth and paint the sky with countless shimmering lights. Though Rem lived in darkness, he was madly in love with the sun. He was blinded by her beauty every dusk as she fell and each dawn as she rose. The Sun loved Rem in return, for the beautiful stars he left for her each morning. She could see that each light he painted was a tiny portrait of her, and she glowed all the brighter for him.

One day, during a great eclipse, the two beings finally came together. Night covered the sun and for a moment, the day became pitch black. Soon the darkness passed however, and the sun shined bright once more, and in that moment, a child was born; the daughter of night and day.

Her name was Aurora, and though she was beautiful and kind, when she opened her eyes, they shone like two brilliant stars. They were so bright that they would blind anyone who tried to look upon her. Aurora was forced to keep her eyes covered with a dark veil at all times to prevent the light of her eyes from harming others. But while her eyes were covered, Aurora was blind and could not see the stars her father placed in the sky, and this made her very sad.

So one night, seeing how mournful his daughter had become, Rem reached down and plucked the two shining eyes from her face. He reached up, above all the other stars and placed his daughter’s eyes where their light would shine safely for all to see. Now not only could Aurora see every star, but she could also see the world and all its people.

From that night on, Aurora’s eyes remained the two brightest stars in the night sky. She would walk hand in hand with her father every night as he painted the stars. Rem made shapes and constellations of lights to delight his daughter and tell her stories. And in return, Aurora told her father of all the people she could see on earth, of the things that happened in the night, and of the wishes people made upon his stars.

Even tonight, Aurora walks in hand with her father, whispering to him all the secrets and stories of the night. And he listens…
