Malum's WARNING

Malum; a deity of sorrow and siege, was said to have been formed from the shattered bones of armies lost in battle. Born from the wreckage of a burning world consumed by war, Malum sought to prevent others from meeting the same pointless fate. To this end, Malum devised a plan to seek and weed out the cruelest and most heartless of beings; those most likely to inspire ruin and devastation on such a massive scale.

Traveling through time and space, Malum sought new worlds and new realities. In each one, leaving behind a single book; an illuminated manuscript known as “The Malum Monitome”, intended as both test & trap for those who would seek its knowledge.

The tome described an ultimate power; a weapon strong enough to wipe out any enemy, no matter how great. In order to summon it however, the reader would have to perform a cruel and complex ritual sacrifice. The ritual’s instructions were designed to repel all but the most putrid of souls. Only those who were truly void of all empathy and mercy, would be willing to pay such a terrible price for power.

If attempted, the ritual would open a gateway to Malum’s own realm, a barren waste surrounded by death and ash. There, Malum quickly snuffed out any and all who dared to use the book. Erasing them from existence with the very power they had sought. Afterwards, the tome would be left behind once again, ready to repeat its test on another.

Since its creation, rulers and tyrants across countless worlds have discovered the book and performed its dark instructions in the hopes of gaining an unstoppable weapon, only to be destroyed by Malum in turn. Many powerful empires, lost or destroyed, have been attributed to the Monitome’s influence. From sunken cities, to deadly plagues, and even fire raining from the skies; Malum’s wrath has ended many whose dark ambitions lead towards global destruction.

There are few peaceful worlds where the Malum Monitome has never been sought. It sits quietly, tempting no one, its pages forever undisturbed. But more often the tome serves its dark purpose again and again, calling out to those evil enough to crave its power, testing their cruelty, and passing its terrible judgment upon them.
